Post-Surgery Care Procedures
You did the surgery, now what? 🏥
Recovery is key after any surgical procedure, including implant treatment. Here’s some essential post-op care to ensure a smooth recovery:
If You Feel Pain
💊 Take your medication as prescribed to ease discomfort. If your mouth muscles hurt, try massaging them. If there’s excessive bleeding, consult your dentist.
Environment Tips
🌞 Avoid hot and stuffy environments. Steer clear of too much sun, humidity, and rain.
Mouth and Lips Care
❄️ Apply ice packs to your face around the operated area as advised by your dentist. Use a thin cloth to avoid direct contact with your skin. Avoid spitting, rinsing, or using a straw during the specified period. Keep your lips moist with lip balm.
Get Some Rest
😴 Avoid exercising, lifting weights, and driving. Speak calmly and in moderation.
Watch Your Diet
🍽️ Avoid eating or drinking until the anesthetic wears off, especially in the first 24 hours. Stay away from hot foods and beverages. No smoking or alcohol.
When you eat, chew on the opposite side of the surgery. Opt for soft foods—cold options like ice cream, yogurt, and cold soups are ideal. Keep the surgical area clean with antiseptic cotton swabs. Stay hydrated and gradually return to your normal diet, starting around the third day post-surgery.
Oral Hygiene is Essential
🪥 Brush your teeth gently with little or no toothpaste, avoiding the operated area. Use a post-op toothbrush for the surgical site. Don’t forget to brush your tongue. Use dental floss, but not in the operated area unless your dentist approves.
Bedtime Care
🛌 Sleep with your head elevated and lie on your back or the opposite side of the surgery. Avoid touching your stitches with your fingers or any object.
Follow these guidelines closely for a smooth recovery. If you have any doubts, contact your dentist. 🦷
